About Station
One of the most densely populated areas of Pune, Yerwada is neither fully commercial nor entirely residential. The area has great historical significance since Mahatama Gandhi was imprisoned by the British during the freedom struggle at the Yerwada jail. The metro station is hence designed as a tribute to the Mahatma and his principle of self-help-symbolised by the charkha, a motif placed at the centre of the station facade.
